Bellwether Financial Group’s $330 million redevelopment of Dana Point Harbor received the California Coastal Commission’s permit in a final vote of approval, Bellwether announced.

The project includes renovating an aging marina and building new restaurants, shops and hotels. The redevelopment plan is expected to be completed in 2026.

“We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revitalize this iconic Orange County asset and create a destination for generations to come,” said Joe Ueberroth, founder and president of Bellwether.

Ueberroth and his team worked with the California Coastal Commission to design a project that benefits the environment, the community and visitors from around the world, the company said in a statement.

“Our plan includes protection of marine life, commitment to water quality and expanding public access,” Ueberroth said. “A core part, and one we are perhaps most excited and proud [about], is Environment Justice, an educational, sailing and water-sports program for underserved youth in Orange County.”

Bellwether-owned Bellingham Marine will develop and build the marina; sister company Bellport will oversee operations.

“The Dana Point Harbor revitalization plan is the result of more than 20 years of community collaboration, and we are thrilled to now have it underway,” said Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett.
